Da Bologna prendere la Porrettana direzione Zola Predosa, seguire per Monte San Pietro. Giunti a Rivabella, prima di Calderino, proseguire dritto dopo il ponte su “Via Landa” direzione Monte San Pietro. In località Loghetto girare a sinistra seguendo la via Landa fino in cima. Scendere a destra al cartello marrone “Case Vallona Il Palazzo”. Siamo a 500 m sulla sinistra.
Siamo sull’Appennino tosco-emiliano, a Monte San Pietro: 20 km da Bologna, 30 Km da Modena, 70 Km da Ferrara, 100 km da Firenze e Parma, 200 km da Milano, 390 da Roma, 1.150 km da Berlino.
Case Vallona è un piccolo borgo composto da case padronali, stalle, fienili, una torretta a colombaia e una locanda siti in Monte San Pietro, uno dei nuclei abitati più antichi della Provincia di Bologna. Le prime tracce di insediamenti umani sul territorio risalgono infatti al 2500 a. C. Furono i Romani a creare il primo insediamento stabile a Monte San Pietro, per dar vita ad una stazione difensiva che potesse consentir loro di difendere quei territori dall’arrivo dei Longobardi. A partire dal 1100, Monte San Pietro divenne motivo di contesa tra le due potenze di Bologna e Modena e vide un alternarsi di signorie alla sua testa: prima ci furono i da Panico, poi i conti dell’Amola, infine, i Cattani. Il nome del Comune, “Monte Sancti Petri”, compare per la prima volta nel 1300, in un documento del vicariato di Savigno.
Nel periodo seguente al secondo conflitto mondiale, Casa Vallona ebbe un ruolo significativo ospitando la scuola locale, a causa dell’inagibilità dell’edificio pubblico che era stato bombardato e divenendo dimora, in un locale detto “la pigione”, per un gruppo di donne e bambini sfollati.
